Flexible Learning at the IT Skills Centre – work towards the City & Guilds iTQ
Many of us pick up our IT skills as we go. We learn how to set up phones by having to set one up to use. It can be the same for Microsoft Office – we learn to use a word processor by writing letters or a CV. However there is a difference between how we use IT at home and how we use it in the workplace.
I studied for an IT qualification at Heart of Worcestershire College in Worcester and even though I am IT literate I learned a lot from it. It also helped me find work and as a volunteer Digital Champion. The nice thing about these courses are they are not taught in a traditional classroom atmosphere. The learning is self paced, so you can go as quickly or as slowly as you need. And there are always members of staff on hand to show you how to get over any problems you face and to encourage you along the way. The times are flexible, so you can pop along when you have the time to do so. Many courses are free for those that don’t already have them.
The IT Skills Centre at Heart of Worcestershire College offer recognised IT qualifications in nearly all Microsoft Office applications, along with internet and e-mail. They run courses from Entry Level 3 (Start IT) to an expert level (Level 3). You will have the chance to gain IT skills, grow in confidence using computers and be able to prove it to employers:
- Build up your computer skills whatever your starting point
- Learn to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Gain recognised qualifications from City & Guilds
- Boost your self confidence in IT and personally
- Improve your speed and knowledge to help with IT tests at interview
- Put it on your CV straightaway!
