Age UK Worcester & District is based at Bank House, on the corner of Shaw Street and Farrier Street in the city centre. Our main phone line is open 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. We can provide free general Information & Advice over the phone or signpost / book people over to other internal or external services.
Our office is open to drop-ins from 9:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday. One of the main reasons people will visit us is to receive help from the Information & Advice team, where we can assess their eligibility for Benefits or Grants and help them complete the forms to apply. We can also visit people in their homes if they are unable to make it to our offices; this is free of charge.
A longstanding service we run is our Help at Home. Currently this is made up of four separate services; Help at Home; Handyperson; Gardening; Befriending. Each providing crucial help and support to clients in or around their homes. Our befrienders will call and visit isolated older people in their own homes every week. Our gardeners will help keep the garden tidy and clean. Our handyperson can carry out minor DIY jobs or adaptations in or around your home. Such as painting, fitting grab rails or changing light bulbs. Our homeworkers will visit to do general household chores like cleaning, ironing; laundry and small amounts of shopping. All of our team are DBS checked.
We offer free-of-charge, one-to-one computer lessons through our Digital inclusion service. No matter what the skill level, clients can book appointments to visit us so we can learn at the pace they want to learn at. Our classes offer bespoke training with no techy talk, unlimited time frame and no pressure to follow a set course.
We run several Social Clubs and Luncheon Clubs across the city each week. Each club offers varied activity programmes and regular day trips. We hold a weekly Craft Club at our offices where people gather to do all things knitting. The Craft Club members support our efforts in contributing to the Big Knit Campaign; which knits little hats to go on top of Innocent Drinks to raise money for us.
Although the football season has ended, we teamed up with Worcester City FC for the 2018-19 season to provide monthly free return transport to home matches in Bromsgrove. We’re hoping further funding can be found to continue this into next season.
We’re also currently working on some new projects and services which we hope to introduce in 2019. We hope to bring in Foot care, set up Worcester’s first Men’s Shed group and introduce a Money Management Club. Our Foot Care will provide basic level care such as nail filing, clipping and cleaning. To combat social isolation, the Men’s Shed group will be a place for Men & Women to come together to create, converse and connect, with other likeminded people, who wish to make use of their practical skills. We hope the Money Management Club will be a small group that will feature financial and banking advice from an expert representative.
